I always find it fun to read from people's responses.

Personally, I'm getting the MacBook Pro M1 Max, 4TB, 36GB, 64GB

Coming from a 2018 MBP i9, 512GB, 32GB RAM, Radeon Pro 560X 4GB

I don't go all out or spend much stuff on other things in life, but my livelihood is spent on a computer as many pro and non-pro users.

Using photoshop and other graphic intensive programs that takes time to save or even hangs up, it's time for this upgrade.

The annoyance of a laptop fan and trying to restart your computer while trying not to lose all your chrome tabs to make the fan stop is a stupid. Got enough to focus on that a high turbine laptop fan is one thing should not be an issue.

Also the amount of pictures and video for editing adds up, thus a 2TB would have suffice, but I do not want to worry at all thus getting the 4TB.

90% of my work is on a desk hooked to my LG Ultrafina, but I think this new Liquid Display XDR will get me working elsewhere in the house.

Looking forward to this new MacBook Pro and I foresee keeping this at min. 5 years.

MBA M1 upgrading to MBP 14" 10+16 with 16GB RAM and 1TB. I do cloud engineering and I can get easily by with my MBA however I generate around 10GB of swap every day so I need the 16GB of RAM, upgraded the CPU to get the 16 GPU cores so I don't have problem with 2 external displays + internal display on heavy duty days.

Going from a 2018 MBP 15 to the 10 core 14.

Was hoping to keep that machine for a while but the move from Intel has forced my hand a bit. Now that I use an external monitor at home, I'm taking the opportunity to downsize screen for better portability.

Going from a 16in 2019 base model to the 14in Basel model, I did get the 10 cpu/ 14 gpa though. I’m mostly using it for school. Just felt the 16 in was a bit too big to be carrying around campus

Most people (>90%) should not upgrade with an only 2-3 years old macbook if it's undamaged, do it if it becomes truly inconvenient for your workflow. People are confusing needs and wants.

Macbook are build to last 5+ years without perf issues, not 2-3 years.

I'm upgrading from a MBP 13 2014 to a MBP 16 M1 Pro. Even if ARM transition is excellent I would never bought this model with a 2018 or more recent MBP. I like to optimise lifespan of my hardware.

Probably a good call. The 4.7-4.8lbs of the new model is definitely a little hefty. I'm still undecided on 14" vs. 16", but I'm leaning towards the 14" for increased portability.

Yeah if you’re going for portability, I would definitely go with the 14in. The 16in is going to be the new 17in from back in the day

I've been hunkering along with a Late 2013 27" iMac. The plan was to upgrade when the M1 27" came out, but can't wait any longer, and the idea of not being chained to the desk is very appealing.

The new machines are monsters, and answer all the issues I've had with getting a laptop in the past.

Weight isn't an issue, it will rarely leave the house.

Got a 16" M1 Max on the way. 64 Gb memory, and 2 TB SSD.

Coming from a 2017 13” pro. Upgrading to 16 with M1 max. Want a bigger screen, also my 1tb drive is almost full. Going to go with 4tb this time.

I went with the base 14 inch model, coming from a 2017 i5 MBP. I am thinking this will be a pretty nice jump for me considering everything I have read about the M1. My use case is extremely minimal, but my wife will use it for some light graphic design stuff, so it should be more than enough.

Coming from a M1 Mac Mini, plan to trade it in. I've needed a laptop for 2 years but decided to wait knowing this would come.
