The Genius said that people have been having problems with compatibility in restoring from an iOS 5 backup to a phone w iOS 7.

Also, I'm jailbroken....is there some special way I need to go about updating to iOS 7 like restoring my phone to ensure I don't lose my backup and all my info? Thanks!

an iCloud backup from iOS 5 to 7 should be fine.

I'm super annoyed with iCloud right now, I'm gonna do it the conventional way. How do I go about doing this safest? Should I update to iOS 7 to ensure it's compatible? If so do I have to restore first?

iOS 7 doesn't require iCloud to sync contacts. It's Mavericks that requires iCloud sync for contacts

Mavericks did away with sync services, meaning you can no longer sync contacts thru iTunes if your Mac is running Mavericks--you're forced to use iCloud. Personally, I'm staying with Mountain Lion because of that.

Backup the 4S, upgrade to 7.04 (which means losing the JB, but you'll be able to JB the replacement 4S) and back it up again. You'll be restoring from that backup.

Ok cool, will that work w Windows circa 2005?

Are you sure the 4s you're getting will be running iOS 7?

I would assume but if not I will just update it.

Lastly, how do I restore/unjailbreak before updating my 4S w iOS 5.01 to 7.04? Sorry my Genius appointment is @ 11 am tomorrow lol.
