Phones Getting a strange text from Google out of nowhere ?

I just received a text, from # 256447

It read " Your Google verification code is 723xxx "

What the heck is that for ? I have gotten something like that three time sin the past couple of weeks.

Either - You have likely setup a Google account for someone and at the time put in your tel number at setup. They are subsequently trying to recover password and now you are getting the verification notification.

Alternatively it's your Google account and someone is trying to hack it.

Or finally - your signing into your Google account on new devices.

If latter two are not true, then it's likely the first.
