Are Apple TV boxes region free? As in you can buy it one country and set it up it in another as if it was bought locally? I know the power cable may be different but would it function the same?

Searching on the net people seem to ask whether Apple TV the subscription service is region free, not Apple TV the actual hardware. As far as I know Apple hardware isn't usually region locked but as this is to do with TV I thought things might be different.

I don't already have content or subscriptions in other regions I want to move over or anything like that, first Apple TV I would own.

I believe the only thing different with an Apple TV from a different country is the power cables end that plugs into the power socket.
Other than that it’s not so much the country of purchase that’s important it’s the AppleID and for some streaming apps the ISP geo location.

Besides having to get an adaptor to the local power point plug, it will work.

As stated above, what apps your are able to watch depends on the Apple ID you log in with.

I take mine around the world and with a few adaptors AND a Smart DNS everything is possible.

I can give an useful answer. I'm in South America and use an Apple TV HD purchased in Germany. Everything works as it should, except one function: Siri. Voice input can be used for search in search fields, but Siri is greyed out in Settings. Because of this limitation, it's not possible to give Hey Siri orders. This is a region specific limitation as far as my knowledge reaches, because my Apple ID is tied to my country. I also have an AirPort Express purchased in Germany and for this product the localization is more evident, but doesn't interfere with normal use.

Thanks for all the useful replies, appreciate it.
