Hi,

I need a way of getting audio from a microcassette dictaphone into my MacBook. The dictaphone has a headphone jack.

How can I do this. I assume you can't plug the heaphone jack of the dictaphone into the headphone jack on the side of the MacBook.

I no nothing about audio (clearly).

Thanks in advance,

MadDoc,

No, you'd plug it into the mic jack, next to the headphone jack.

I thought that was an optical audio port. Will a normal 'headphone' jack fit into it?

MB & MBP Audio Ports Are Dual Analog-Digital

Both your audio ports are DUAL analog-digital ports according to what you plug into them. Use your System Preferences Hardware Sound preference to make sure you're getting the right amount of signal from the analog source. There's an input volume slider in there.

Yes your normal 1/8" headphone jack out or analog audio in jack fits in there and works.

Thank you for all of your help guys.

I'll give this a go when I return from work.

MadDoc,

I've just realised - I'll need to buy a cable to connect the dictaphone (with a headphone socket) to the line-in port. What do I need?

MadDoc,

Just a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack lead.
Same plug both ends.
