Hi all, I have a late 2013 Retina MBP which was working fine until the battery suddenly failed but would work using the charger, that's stopped working now (no lights on the charger etc) I suspect the logic board has failed. I have purchased a new Touch Bar MBP, is there a way that I can get the data from the dead unit using a cable? Im capable of removing the drive from the old one but enclosures for it look expensive etc.

thanks in advance

Using a m.2 Sintech adapter and nvme enclosure may be the cheapest method unless you know someone who has a Mac that is compatible with the SSD drive.

If the drive is encrypted, data retrieval may be a challenge too.

If this happened to me, the answer would be to get it off one of my Time Machine backups.

Apple gives you this really nice backup software - everyone should be using it.

Thanks for this, the user account has password but apart from this I don’t think any other encryption is in place, would it just show up as external drive on new Mac?

Yes, and you should be able to boot from that (now external) drive as well.
