Hello, I attempting to run a digital audio signal from my macbook pro3,1 to a Yamaha RX-V420 receiver which does Dolby Digital, and DTS, decoding. The receiver, when detecting a signal encoding in Dolby Digital, should detect that it is such and switch to digital mode. I'm confident I have my settings correct on the receiver but all it is displaying is a PCM signal. The manual states this occurs when "an analog audio signal is digitized, recorded and transmitted without using any compression".

The cable I am running is out the headphone jack into the optical audio of the receiver and my system preferences tell me I am sending a digital signal out.

My question is why am I getting a PCM signal in the receiver and not a Dolby Surround signal when playing DVDs that are encoded in Dolby Digital?

Thanks to anyone who can provide any assistance.
