Not sure what's going on but for the past 2+ months my phone has been receiving constant phone calls from strange numbers from all over the US. Some time they will leave a voicemail about student loans and other stuff. I notice that certain numbers will come from the same city, but with different last 4 digits. For example

763-555-1212, 763-555-1290, 763-555,-1283, etc. I tried blocking these numbers but they keep coming from different numbers. It's getting really frustrating and annoying. I really don't want to change my number, as that means I will have to update all my friends and family with the new number. Has anyone else ran into this situation and can tell me how to prevent these numbers from constantly calling me every day?

Block them, and keep blocking them.

If you have appropriate consumer protection legislation (thanks to the EU, such things exist here) you can request that they remove your number and contact details form their data base and never attempt to get in touch with you again (as to do so once you have asked them to desist from doing so, is illegal).

Thanks guys for the tips! I thought it was just me. Something needs to be done about these spammers. This should be illegal. I will give those apps a go.
[doublepost=1536886596][/doublepost]I downloaded Robokiller and it asked for my phone number to sign up, after that I had to pick a subscription. I thought it would be free? Sigh. I don't like giving out my number if I didn't really have to. This is how the problem got started in the 1st place. I wish there was a disclaimer to tell you that this would be a subscription based service before it asks for your number. Sigh.

I got rid of my Uverse landline too many spam calls up to 20 a day, now I have Google voice (free) and I get none..

yes I changed my number..

I was getting 15-20 a day. It was nuts. Now I use the Call Protect app and it blocks like 90% of the fraud and marketing calls. Love it!

Use TrueCaller. Never get spam on iPhone.
Only on landline, not so often. Swedish spam numbers are blocked. Once in a while (5-10/yr) there’s some international humbug calls, just to hung up.

Last I checked, here are what the big 4 in the USA offer or recommend:
  • For AT&T users, "Call Protect" app is free. Download it from the appropriate app store for your phone. I personally use this and it is fantastic.
  • For T-Mobile users, known scammer numbers are blocked automatically for free. If you want to block suspected scammers as well, you can enable "ScamBlock" for free--it is disabled by default because some suspected scammers might be legitimate callers. Dial #662# to toggle it on and off.
  • Verizon doesn't have a free solution. They recommend the third party "NomoRobo" app, which has a $2/mo subscription.
  • Sprint doesn't have a free solution. They protect from robo calls if you sign up for $3/mo "Premium Caller ID" service.
This information might be out of date. It is what I found when I researched them about 6 months ago for my neighbors.
