Hello all:

I've recently purchased a PowerMac G4 - my first foray into Macworld and the old machine works great. I don't know a thing about Macs beyond my experience with this one system, but thus far I've gotten it to successfully join my Windows-based wireless network - it can see the other computers, printers, and surf the 'Net. The problem is the printers - they are an HP LaserJet 1100, an HP Color LaserJet 1600, and the Epson Stylus Photo 825. Of the three, only the Epson is supposed to have true Mac drivers.

Using the open-source drivers provided in OS X 10.4.10, I have successfully gotten a printout from the HP LaserJet 1100 - but I do not know how to get OS X to use the Mac drivers I downloaded from the Epson website to use with the Stylus. I've installed the Stylus's drivers, but the Mac doesn't seem to use those when it prints to the Epson (all of the printers are connected to one of the other Windows computers, and not on a print server) - I just get page after page of garbage. How do I get OS X to use the Mac drivers for that networked printer? I can't seem to see a way to tell the Mac that the drivers I installed are to be used for that machine, and the drivers didn't pick up that there is a networked Epson during installation.

Neither of my two HP printers are supposed to have Mac drivers according to HP, but as I said I have gotten a successful print from the 1100 and I have been told there are also open-source drivers for the 1600... again, how would I get the Mac to use those for network printers?

I'm not a computer genius by any stretch, but I think my level of proficiency with these devices is reasonably above average - I've been playing with PC's since 1993. I'm just not fluent enough yet with Macs to know what I'm missing here. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Anna
