Getting iPhone from a friend on Rogers

I'm not currently eligible for an upgrade, but my friend is willing to get the upgrade and give me the phone.

If i get the 6GB plan and put my sim in the phone, my friend shouldn't get any data charges should he?

he is goign to use it on rogers so he doesnt need to unlock it

he shouldnt. but you take out the sim that the phone came with, and put your sim BEFORE you activate ti through Itunes. i did that with my sister. i did this with my brother, they told me i can activate it but amke sure i have my sim before activating it
