Hey, so my friend has an iPhone 3g that is jailbroken on 4.0.1. She is going to be leaving in a couple of months to study abroad, is there a way to get her to be able to use her phone while shes up there? Shes only going to be there for 3.5 months so wondering if its cheaper to just get a prepaid phone instead.

Or you could just call ATT and get an international plan for three months. They're really not that expensive. Better safe than sorry.

Ok the bad news first,
1. Its not easy getting prepaid phones here like it is in Europe and the US, you can't pick one up in a supermarket.
2. even if the iPhone is unlocked and you put a KT sim in, it won't work unless the IMEI has been registered with KT, which they won't till it's tested by the communications authority. I think it's around $300
3. There is no GSM here, only 3G

Good news
Tell your friend to visit Seoul global centre which helps expats to get phones etc. Useful anyway if it's here first visit here.

KT has some English service centres too, check out this...

I would also check out the roaming options if she is only going to be here for a short time.

Hope this helps.
