I'm sitting in my office and I can hear that my wife has started some music playing on the front room HomePods that I like.

How can I get the same music playing on my HomePod mini up here? I've tried various voice commands with little success. I don't particularly want her to have to do anything, I'd like to be able to get the same as is playing there, playing here.

Thanks.

I will have to do an experiment with voice commands in my house and get back to you on that.....obviously its easy to send music to another room that you are already in.

A way that I know you can receive the same music as what your wife is playing....is with your iPhone or iPad, you goto the control centre, tap & hold on the music tile, which then will show you what's playing....tap on the little airplay icon, which will then bring up the other speakers in the house....press on the speaker your hearing (your front room), which will then give you the little dots to play the same music in other rooms at the same time, so select the office speaker as well.

Thanks - After a lot of playing around, I don't think it's possible to do it via voice commands.

You have to tell it to play in a specific room. I say hey Siri , play in the living room also. (Or whatever room). Same with hey siri, stop playing in the bathroom.

you can say hey Siri, play everywhere.

That works if you’re in the current room where it’s playing. That’s not what I’m asking.

Hmmmmm... Well I started Apple Music in our Home Office. I walked out to the living room and said "hey siri, play in the living room also" and Siri in the living room said "now also playing in the living room"....

ANDDDDD just checked it again on the bathroom.... and she answered with "now playing in the bathroom and office"

so it does work the way i said.

Not here, there's music playing downstairs and I said to Siri in my office "hey Siri play in the office also"

"Sorry I'm not sure what you music want to play. Please specify which speakers music you would like to add"

/edit - Trying different versions such as "hey Siri play from the front room in the office also" give exactly the same response.

@caligurl Just wondering if all your HomePods are the full size ones that you were testing with or of you have some mini's in your set up too?

@Feek Am I correct in assuming that your front room HomePod is the full size one and your office is the mini?

Check out this article...

Control multiple speakers

Try any of the following examples:
  • Play in a room: Refer to the room where the HomePod is. For example, say “Hey Siri, play music in the living room.” Play in multiple rooms by saying “Hey Siri, play this in the living room and kitchen.”
  • Move audio to a room: To stop playing on a speaker and start playing on another, say something like “Hey Siri, move this to the bedroom.”
  • Add a room: To add a room when audio is already playing, say “Hey Siri, add the kitchen” or “Hey Siri, play music from the kitchen here.”

Doesn't work.

Strange...I just tried it on mine and it works. I have 4 minis. Two stereo paired in Great Room and two stereo paired in Studio.

In Studio, I said “Hey Siri, play music from the Great Room here”. She responded, “one sec, now also playing in here“. The music from Great Room is now playing in both locations.

You can pick up your iPhone, go to Control Center, long-press the HomePod your wife is listening to, and look for the blue AirPlay icon.

Then tap on the AirPlay icon, tap the speaker in the room you're in, and that will do it.

I don't know. The method described above to do it via Control Centre works but I'd be much happier if I could do it by voice.

OK, thank you. I'm not ungrateful but it's not really the solution I asked for - I asked how to do it by voice.

It's also nice how you don't use the quote feature.

Your post did not mention that voice was a prerequisite.

The voice option is working fine on mine. Not sure what’s different with OP’s setup?

If I'm replying to someones post directly above mine, I don't need to quote it because I'm directly replying. I don't understand what that has to do with anything. Are you that grumpy simply because I didn't say "thank you" for an answer that is a work-around and not actually an answer to the original question?

Actually..
I've tried various voice commands with little success.
I did say that in my original post so that's the clue. Every other post in the thread is related to voice.

Neither am I - I've done all the usual things to try when Siri doesn't behave as expected, logging out on everything, logging back in, restarting the router (all the things that Apple tell you to do when they're working from their script).

Ahhhhh! Feek, I think I found something as I was thinking about what might be different between our setups. The Siri voice came to mind. I changed the Siri voice to English UK and now get the same response as you. I change it back to English Canada and it then works.

When I changed it to the UK voice, I got a warning that individual voices cannot be recognized and personal requests would be turned off also (I had that feature already off). So Siri seems to not be equal in different languages.

As a test, try changing to English US or Canada on all your homepods and try again. Interested to see if you get the same results. You have to give it about 5 minutes after switching languages before testing as Siri goes stupid for a Bit after switching.

Oh @seadragon You got me all excited for a few minutes :D

I changed the voice on two of my HomePod minis to American but got the same message when I tried.

When I went to change the actual language from English (United Kingdom) to English (Canada), I got this...

Which is what I think you're referring to.

I don't think this is going to be related but when I've finished work this evening, I'll go through them all and change them to try. I can't do it now as I'm on my lunch break so a bit short of time.

Yes, that’s the same message I got when I changed to the UK voice. I just tested this again and got the same results. Works when set to English Canada but doesn‘t work when set to English UK. I think they all have to be set to the same language also.

That's interesting - I get that message when switching to English Canada but you got it when switching to English UK! I don't want to lose individual family voice recognition or personal requests but I wonder if that will actually happen.

I'll do all seven of my HomePods this evening to see if it makes any difference and will report back, thanks for your help.
