getting my first iphone today - ip5

I will get it at the apple store after work.

is there anything specifically i should know about that is not obvious to a newbie to get them to help set up?

or do they just hand it to you and boot you out the door so you dont take up any more space?

I was handed my phone while a specialist stood on hand while he performed the sim swap. I was then taken over to the set up area while i used their servers to download from my iCloud back up.

After i was happy with the condition of the phone and that all was working was i 'allowed' to leave !!

Fantastic experience.
 
Assuming that you'll have your old phone with you, ask if the Apple guys can transfer your Contacts from your old phone SIM while they're setting up your new iPhone. Saves you time since you'll have a lot of stuff that you're going to want to start downloading when you get home. Make sure that the new iPhone works before you leave; call someone from the store. :)

Yea have them help you port your contacts to the SIM card and then they will import them to phone for you, (it's an option in the mail, contacts, and calendars area of settings). (If your SIM card currently is a nano sim, if not idk how that will work)

After this they can set you up with iCloud, so in the future iPhone upgrades and swaps you can get your contacts back instantly from iCloud.

it was awesome!

they transferred all my contacts. spent about an hour going over it, transferring data, itunes, etc. i can not imagine the vz store doing a better job.

and even helped me transfer my itunes songs from my work pc to my work mbp and my new ip5:)

i dont really know what to do with it now that i got it, but i got it along with all my songs 7 gb where as my ipod mini could only take on 4 gb...

i decided to order it on halloween about 10:05 pm and picked it up today.

phone sounds and works great!

how do i know if i am getting vz lte? i have a tower that i can see from my window.
 
Congratulations! :cool I'm pleased that you had such a pleasant experience. (I've never had a bad experience.)

If you are connected to LTE, you will see LTE instead of the wifi signal indicator.
