getting network unavailable error when trying to connect mbp to bluetooth devices

I have a 15 mbp 2011 running mavericks and for the life of me i CAN not seem to figure out how to fix this issue, its driving me insane.

I have a Galaxy s4 and iPad Air trying to connect via bluetooth to my mbp but every time i 'pair' them it will pair for a couple of seconds then give me this error

i have enabled sharing on my laptop, to no avail. Is this something to do with my wifi? I really don't know where to go from here. I just want to be able to use airdrop with my iPad and MBP
