How do I get a new iPone recognized by my computer/iTunes?

Whenever I plug my iPhone5 into my iMac it will bring up iTunes, but does not acknowledge it.
What do I need to do?

How do I get a new iPone recognized by my computer/iTunes?

Whenever I plug my iPhone5 into my iMac it will bring up iTunes, but does not acknowledge it.
What do I need to do?

Try first reseting the iMac and hard reseting the iPhone.
