Hey fellas,

I got a great Viewsonic PJ551 projector from my work which has a VGA connection. I thought I would use it to play videos in my room off my MBP so I stopped by Fry's and bought a Bytecc VGA to HDMI converter. Shocking I know...but I'm having technical difficulties.

Is my problem that the converter is VGA to HDMI and since I am plugging a projector into my laptop what I really need is an HDMI to VGA converter. Or should it not matter?

Yes, direction is important. You'll do better with the mDP to vga adapter. Also available at Frys, Amazon, and even Apple.

That kind of adapter is "one way" and is meant to transform an analog signal (VGA) into a digital one (HDMI).

A MDP to VGA adapter from Monoprice will work just fine for your use.
