Getting rid of exclamation points in mail

Is there a way to get rid of the double exclamation points in Apple's mail program

Those !! are emails marked as High Priority.
You goto View > Columns > and uncheck Flags if you dont want to see them anymore, however any messages you flagged yourself will no longer be flagged.

Thanks for the info, it's important that I'm able to flag emails so I guess I'll have to live with the !!
