Hi all,

So once my 5s gets here, I'm shipping my iPhone 4 off to Gazelle. I'm reading the guides online about how to erase content/data before doing that. I just wanted to check - am I missing anything?

1. Back up the old phone
2. Turn off iMessage
3. Erase content/settings (restore to factory default)

Ok, so after that, some guides said to remove the SIM card too. So I remove the SIM card. When I get the 5s, do I need to put the old SIM in there? And if not, what do I do with the old SIM? Just toss it?

Thanks!

Your 5S will come it its own sim card. You can discard your old one

You need a nano sim for your new phone. The 4 has the old larger sim card and tray.

You should get a sim if you have purchased via a carrier, after that, the process is as you describe. Turn off imessage ( I usually delete my email accounts too) then erase all content and settings.

When you are up and running I'd cut the old sim up and toss it away...I normally shred mine.:)

I just erased everything.

I never turned off iMessage or finds iPhone.

Is that going to be an issue? I thought if I erased all content and settings I was good?

Sim can only be burned once. Toss it.

Not really. I purchased my 5s online from Verizon. Gave me the option to use current 5 sim in the 5s when it arrives.

Gazelle says to turn off find my iphone as that could delay your payment.
