Hey there,

I have a free email account registered with www.inbox.com, and have had it set up for POP access with the OS X Mail client for several months now. Its worked flawlessly up until about a week ago, when for no reason the lightning bolt ('Offline') icon started showing up next to my Inbox whenever I clicked Get Mail. If I click the icon to 'Go Online' it disappears, and then returns again when I try to fetch my messages. Visiting the webpage to check them isn't efficient for me, and so long as I know the site has made no recent changes to their domain settings.

I tried deleting the profile and setting it up for POP access again, but to no avail. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

This is probably not your problem but just in case: I had the same issue when I changed my inboxes' passwords and forgot to update the settings on my mac. Instead of telling me, it just did the little icon you describe. That was with IMAP boxes however.

I would recommend something similar: make sure that you can login to the browser based email with the same usernames and passwords that you have set up in Mail. Also, make sure that things like SSL and port numbers are correct, since this could cause a problem when you try to get your mail. Most browser based email clients like Gmail will have detailed instructions on how to set it up.

I am fairly certain that something is wrong with the information that you provided to Mail, or with the mail server that you are trying to connect to.

Have you ever been able to retrieve email before? Did you just set up the account? Does the server require some sort of IP authentication?
