So I've been recording for quite a while now, and although I'm very pleased with the sound I'm getting from Logic Pro X, I'm limited because I'm currently only able to use one mic at a time (the mic is plugged straight into my MacBook Air via USB.) I haven't had the extra cash to spend on an interface until just recently, but before I get one I want to make sure it's the right one...

I've done some research on the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, and this seems to be the best option, especially for the price. However, I also read about the Presonus Audiobox (2 in/2 out, I believe?) is a good alternative... but I haven't found any helpful reviews online

Anyway, I'd love to know what you guys are using!! And also if anyone has any advice on what to get it would be awesome! My preferable budget is up to about $200. Thanks!

Well the question is more what you need. You are saying you are limited with 1 mic at the time, what do you want more than 1 mic? Maybe 1 mic and 1 guitar?

For guitar simulation its always better to get a interface to get lower latency if you are currently using some usb mic and line in/out of your macbook.

I'm currently using the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, the bigger version of yours with 18 ins and 20 outs, but in there are the same preamps as in the 2i2 and I like these preamps. You cant do much wrong with these.

I'm definitely limited to one at a time, as my MBA (mid 2013) doesn't even have an audio in. What I'd really like to do is record using 2 mics for stereo, or at least one mic and one guitar... So I only really need 2 in/2 out. Do you like the Scarlett?

I used a Focusrite Saffire for a few years and it served me well. Focusrite interfaces are quite good, probably the best-sounding preamp/DAC kit at their price point. You can certainly get better if you are willing to spend more (RME, Apogee, etc), but they hit a great value-for-money sweet spot.

Any reviews I've seen on them have been all positive, especially for what you get for the money. I went ahead and ordered the Scarlett 2i2 on Amazon today. Hope it comes soon!
