I'm from the U.S. but I live abroad, and I'm scheduled to be back in the U.S. for a week on the 26th. I pre-ordered my 17 Pro Max for store pickup, which it said would be available on the 19th. I had to select a pickup window, so I picked the 21st (the latest I can choose) knowing I won't actually be there.

Apple's policy says that they'll hold orders for 7 days. So... by my calculation I pretty much have to rush to the store on the day I land as that would be the 7th day.

Are there any tips on this (i.e. should I call them and let them know, something specific to say)? Would the policy be any different for a launch day product? Would I be able to get them to hold it for an extra day in case I fail to get to the store in time? Thanks for any tips and suggestions.
 
I don't know the answer, but I would call the store and ask. Maybe it will hold for an extra day or two if in contact with you. Another idea is whether or not someone you identify would be allowed to pickup the device, and what the store would require to allow that. Also ask the person you are talking to if they have any other ideas.

And I assumed you are talking about an Apple Store, but maybe that's not the case. I'm guessing it might make a difference if this is a local carrier store, and especially if they know you.

I think the 7 days would start from your pickup time, would it not?
I never thought of it that way. It could very well be! Guess I'll find out soon enough. (And to the other reply, yes... this is ordered with Apple Store)
 
So to follow up on this... You guys were correct. The 7 day hold period starts after my pickup time. So even though my phone was eligible for pickup on the 19th, I selected my pickup time to be on the 21st, and now my order screen is telling me to go pick it up before the 28th.

This is so helpful! I placed an order with a pickup date of 9/20. I am not able to pickup till tomorrow. I spent over an hour on the phone with a specialist who did not know the answer. He kept saying oh it’s from your ready for pickup email, so the 19th but to me that did not make sense!

Although I have not received a single update to my order telling me to pickup before a certain date. Last communication received was the “Update to your order” email showing my pickup date/window.
