For starers I have a mid-2014 MBP running Big Sur 11.1. My HD is 500GB and since I’m running this after a complete erase of my HD I have 465GB free space.

A recent thread here about this abruptly ended without a resolution, and even after reading through it and following the advice there I still get the same issue. I’ve poured over 20 hours trying to get this to work and no matter what I do I keep getting that same message every single time. I’ve spoken with 6 people with Apple and have done every single thing they’ve told me to do (their last resort was to erase everything and reinstall macOS) but even after doing this multiple times it still doesn’t work. I have absolutely no idea what to do and at this point I’m willing to try anything. I don’t have automatic backups set on Time Machine, I’ve run first aid on my HD (and the USB stick I need) and nothing comes up as being wrong with either of them. Apple straight up stopped responding to me since it’s been such a long lasting problem (the entire past 3 days trying this) so I figured i’d try here.

Welcome to the club! I was on the thread you linked. My solution was to give up, as I'm able to run W10 via the Parallels tech preview well enough on my M1 MBA. Do you have a Fusion Drive? In any event, you probably saw that the one guy solved the issue with a wipe and reinstall. I've also seen that solution work elsewhere, so I think in our case--where nothing else works--that's unfortunately going to be the only option. If you can't or won't go that route, do you have any experience with Parallels or similar software? I was always a Bootcamp guy, but having been 'forced' into trying VM's I actually like them quite a bit. If you've never tried it maybe you'll find the same result.

Most if the time, and it goes back to 1st days of Bootcamp, there end up being files in locked position at the "end" of drive, preventing creating a partition. A restore using CCC would work.

If your issue comes after that with install, I'd assume you'd have to drop back to an older Mac OS to do the install of Windows

My last install was Mac Mini Intel 2020 and the odd part was lack of support for Apple Bluetooth kb and mouse, but worked with Trackpad 2. I blamed 11.01 I don't have USB kb and using the lightning cable didn't help.

Was newest Windows Home ISO which BCA picked up and *automatically* started install, no wait, no "Okay" or warning. Never saw that. No need for USB installed.
