I've been at this for a solid 2 hours, I got to the last step and passed the DFU mode and everything but when i try to restore the iPhone it says:

The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.

What should I do! I've been trying to figure something out for quite a while but i'm at a total loss. Help please.

You're going to need to answer these 4 questions before anyone can help you:

1) What iPhone are you using?

2) What jailbreak tool are you using?

3) What OS are you on?

4) Do you care about unlocking (i.e. using the phone with a carrier who is NOT AT&T, assuming of course that you're in America)

1) iPhone 4
2) Pwnage tool
3) Was a 4.0.1 then upgraded to 4.1 before doing it
4) It's locked to Rogers but should I care if it's unlocked?

Here's what I would do,

I'd restore with iTunes, since unlocking is not a priority (if it is, for example going overseas, etc, to use a different carrier) to 4.1.

Then I'd just use limera1n or greepois0n to jailbreak.

My guess is this will be the fastest way to solve your problems.

If you are insistent on using pwnage, then you'll have to wait till somene smarter than I appears to help.

I restored it and i'm going to give pwnage one last go, if not i'll take your advice. And don't worry lol, you gave awesome advice whether you are smart or not so thanks a lot! :D

K i got everything done but now i have a new issue, when its in the process of restoring the new custom firmware, it says error 1604

Read this page and let me know if it works.

Hey, I found out how to resolve the issue before I read this sorry. The problem was that i was that i was restoring the custom firmware while having pwnage open but itunes and pwnage cannot run at the same time otherwise the error 1604 will definitely show up and the restore won't happen.

So if 1604 shows up with any of you, quit itunes, run the DFU mode on pwnage tools, quit pwnage. open itunes, restore the custom firmware.
