Gevey Sim how do they work

Has anyone here used a Gevey sim? If so are they any good? Are they more hassle than they are worth? Will gevey sims work with all future versions of iOS (eg. iOS 6 when it comes out) if I preserve the baseband?
I'm looking at buying the Gevey Ultra S for the iPhone 4S in my sig rather than sending it back to USA and would like feedback on if it is a wise purchase (assuming it works as advertised).
