gf switching to iphone from verizon

Hey i'm sure this has been discussed before but..

I got my gf a gift card for the iphone and she currently has Verizon, and is out of contract.

Is there anything special you need to do to port the number. Should she cancel Verizon first or do they handle it for you when switching etc

Have her take the gift card into an apple store , WITH her latest mobile phone bill, and that should be it.

Apple will port the number. Note. It can take a couple of hours so tell her mom etc. that her mobile number may be out for a bit.

Go to the Apple store, tell them to port your VZW number, and your Verizon contract is automatically over. Then you will have to add the Data plan(30$ extra a month) and buy the iPhone(199$-299$ respectively)

actually, now that I think about it, you might need your last phone bill from VZW as the first replier(reply-er?) said.
