I have 10.6.8 installed on my 2011 MBP with gfxCardStatus 2.1. I have an external monitor attached by mDP-> VGA.

Before, I was able to force my graphics card to switch. When i didn't want the external monitor anymore, I just forced the MBP to switch an the internal Intel HD 3000 gfx. The external monitor lost the signal, and I just used my MBP's main display.

However, over the past few days, I noticed that I lost this ability. Now, when there's an external monitor attached and I try to force it to switch to the integrated option, I doesn't do anything at all. Nothing happens. The icon ("d") doesn't change. The screen doesn't flicker. Nothing changes at all.

I don't think it's some software that's affecting this. When I disconnect the external display, I can switch between integrated and discreet at will. It doesn't matter whether there are any application dependencies then.

So I think the display is the only dependency with this problem. I think it's one of those EFI firmware updates I applied a few days ago that's causing all this. Is there a way to fix it?
