"Ghost" ebook in iBooks

I have a number of ebooks (PDF) that I sync using iTunes to my iPad. Today, after a sync, I noticed that a dozen of "ghost" ebook are in iBooks in my iPad. They seem to be ghost as they've a faded icon. Additionally, based on the title, they appear to be one and the same ebook - and yet there are over a dozen icon of the same book. Also, I tried to delete them but they cannot be selected.

Has anyone seen this before? Have the latest sw on the iPad and the latest iTunes on Win7.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
