I turned my MAC of,f left and came back 4 hours later and it was on??? This has happened to me over and over! Is there some kind of setting that I don't know of??

Are you running panther?

If you go to Sys prefs, Energy saver, and then click on schedule/

check if you have timings for the machine coming on/off.

Also, the computer will restart if you have a power surge - maybe try turning this off and see if it does anything..

oh, and are you turning this OFF or putting it to SLEEP?

/asif

Also, did it ever completely shut off to begin with, or did you leave while it was shutting down?

And are you running any programs that might be scheduling the computer to turn on, like some antivirus or norton commander kind of software?

Otherwise that sounds spooky.... :(

Hehe.

You have a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard, perchance? I had this problem with my MS Bluetooth mouse - its polling would wake my Powerbook from sleep.

Uncheck the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" in the Bluetooth Preferences.

I've had to redo this with each OS X point upgrade, unfortunately. It keeps getting reset during the upgrade process for some reason.

Thanks everyone! my comp. was set to start everyday at 12 am????? hmmm.... never set it for that....... maybe there is a ghost in my machine????
