Hello, I need to make some demo "videos" for an app I wrote, and I'd prefer to create lightweight GIF animations rather than full fledged .mov videos. Either way, I need to do this by capturing the screen. It is important to me to add changing annotations to my GIFs to explain the features I'm demonstrating. And no, I'm not willing to pay for a simple feature like this, so I'm only looking for free apps (or paid apps that offer a full featured trial).

By "changing annotations", I mean that, for a certain part of the animation, I want to show one caption, then change it a few seconds later, when demonstrating a different feature. I've looked at a couple of free apps, and I really liked LICEcap, for its ease of use. However, it doesn't offer annotations.

One more thing - I would really like to be able to also draw arrows or circles to highlight certain app controls, just like in Preview.

NOTE - I don't want to have to do this in Preview or GIMP by tediously copying and pasting my text frame by frame (I tried that). That's too much work, and I know that there is something much more convenient out there.

Ideally, I'm looking for an app with a timeline like iMovie, but for editing GIFs rather than MOVs.

Thanks !
