Okay, I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with a gift idea for my cousin who is graduating dental school. My family is pretty much just giving her money. Even though that's obviously very practical...I always find gifts of money very impersonal. I like giving unique, meaningful gifts when the occasion is a really momentous/important one (turning 30, wedding, buying first house, etc.). I'm known for coming up with really creative/touching things. However, I'm really drawing a blank on this one and it's killing me. And I have like two weeks and a half left.

Do any of you guys have any gift ideas? Something to inspire me?

Side note: For her college graduation, I arranged a special spa gift. So, that's out. She already has an iPod video and her boyfriend bought her an iPhone for Christmas. Computer stuff is pretty much out.

Thanks for any ideas.

A pair of really nice pliers.

Beat me to it

If this person is going to soon go into private practice then you can get them novelty items to decorate their office for the kids, like a giant novelty over-sized toothbrush.

(Although I'd assume that most new dentists need to work for someone else before starting their own practice, so this might not be a good gift yet.)

I'm in the same boat. My sister is graduating and is going to dental school.

She's really into this Salem Northstar 60's looking flatware so I got her a serving platter, loaf dish, and a replacement salad plate (she broke one) plate from the set. I'm also still keeping my eyes open on ebay for other things of that nature.

Other than that I wouldn't know what to get her. I feel like the plates are sentimental and she'll have them for the rest of her life.

I would leave the joke gifts i.e. pliers, chatter teeth, etc until she graduates dental school.

It's extremely expensive to start up a practice. She plans to do so down the line but would rather pay off her student loans before getting into even more debt starting a private practice.

As a joke, I was contemplating a "pain jar." A big glass jar filled with teeth (fake teeth?) and some label saying "Dr ______ says: you're next" with some rusty pliers on top.
