Gift certificate for apps?

This isn't explained very clearly on the Apple site, but can an iTunes gift certificate be used for purchasing iPad apps from the App Store? If so, it's much preferable to using a credit card for every one or two dollar purchase.

I know it can't be used for Mac apps.

Yep. iTunes cards can be used for the App Store, Mac App Store, movies, TV shows, pretty much anything. Only thing you can't do with them is buy products from the Apple Store. Ditto with the cards that are marked as "App Store" cards..they're universal as well.
