Was lucky enough to be gifted two used iPads, a Mini 2 and a 10.2 8th gen.
Few surprises with the Mini, it's on its max of 12.5.7.
The 10.2 is a base 32GB model. Having done the reset, I assumed the software update to 18.6 would just work. Instead, I had to offload almost everything that was offloadable to get it to update.
No surprise that they start the new ones from 128GB, then...
Use cases: had the mini also been a cellulsr model and hence had GPS, it would have made a good satnav. Instead it will simply be the device that gives me codes for iCloud verification. I can then move on the iPhone 6S I've been using for that.
The 10.2 has a more serious function. With NALscribe installed, it helps me and my wife, who are both deaf, to 'hear' others by turning their speech into text. We both have similar apps on our phones, but the bigger screen helps enormously.
So, a good and generous gift that will provide a real benefit.
