This is ridiculous. I'm one of the many people having issues with my SeaGate FreeAgent USB drive, when I try to use it as an Airdisk on my Gigabit AEBS. I will (seemingly randomly) start getting the "Unknown user [...]" errors and be unable to mount the drives. Before this could be corrected by plugging the FreeAgent directly into my MBP, mounting, renaming, and ejecting the volumes. It would then work when plugged back into the AEBS. Now even that isn't working.
Apparently this is an issue with the 7.2.1 firmware, but we lucky Gigabit AEBS users don't have the option of downgrading.
Incidentally, I have spent too long trying to get this piece of crap to work such that I am now outside of my return period
