Hi all,

has anyone managed to successfully flash a Gigabyte gtx570 1.2gb card.
I found a mac modded rom but NVflash wont load it. interestingly its twice the size of the original backup rom . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im using a 2006 macpro 2.1efi with pikes El Capitan. another issue is windows 7 wont recognise the 570 , if I try try to install the NV software it cant find the card (GPU-Z cant find it either ) but works great in OSX albeit no boot screen .

Thanks

Steve

You cannot flash the modded ROM file that is twice the size of the ROM chip on your video card as you stated. What you need is to remove the original ROM chip and replace it with a bigger size of the ROM chip for flashing, and that's exactly how people did it in the past.

However, in your case, it'd be a total waste of time and money even if you could handle it since your MP with EFI32 won't be able to read the modded EFI64 ROM flashed video card anyway. You're better off to continue using the unflashed card or find an AMD/ATI card that can be flashed for boot screen.

Hi, thanks for the reply I'm currently using a flashed amd hd 5770 which I flashed myself. Thanks for the info regarding the chip. The problem seems to be with MVflash. even using the force command -4 -5 -6 it doesn't give me a "yes " option it just says press enter to continue ? If I press enter it just gives me a command list ?

Thanks

Steve

I don't think you read or understood anything @xcodeSyn said.

(1) You cannot flash this card without a hardware modification first. The card's ROM chip is not large enough.

(2) Even if you went through all that trouble, you wouldn't want to because it would do nothing for you on your computer anyway. The Nvidia ROM only supports computers with EFI64, and your MP has EFI32.

Hi thanks for the reply, I yes I understood what @xcodeSyn said ( thank you for the info xcodeSyn) , i was merely pointing out that in any case MVflash wasn't working for me . This maybe because it wont let you flash the card for all the above reasons. Anyhow I had a spare 570 and it was just an excercise being pretty much a newbie to macpro's and now I know it was a fruitless one, but thanks you for putting me right.
