Has anybody has issues with their M32U in regards to waking up their Mac?

At times when waking, the display will wake, then jump to the Gibabyte splash screen, then go back to sleep. When I wake again, the display tells me that is has no display port signal. It appears there is an issue when going to the splash screen, and telling the MacBook Air to turn off the display port. It's very odd.

I ever have to reboot the Mac mini/ Mac studio, or lift the lid on the MacBook Air.

I've had it for a little while and used it with a M1 MacBook Air, M1 Mac mini, M1 Max Mac Studio.

All have the same issue.

The Apple Silicon Macs are known to have issues with monitors when waking from sleep, so your situation isn’t unusual. You might want to contact Apple Support so they at least know it’s an issue. The more reports they get, the more likely they are to work on a fix.

I have this issue sometimes. What I find is when the display reboots to the splash screen my Mac thinks the display has been disconnected so locks, which is what is causing the loop.

I am using the USB-C connection between my display and Mac.

I find that once the splash screen disappears, if I blind type my password to unlock the Mac, the display will wake up fine and im good to go. Another thing I found works is to switch to another video signal with active video, wake the Mac with my keyboard and switch back.

This is not an isolated issue with Macs, it also affects PCs. A fix is not been released by Gigabyte, not even in 2025.

I had this issue on a Mini PC also on my M32U display, that I bought in December 2024. It had the latest firmware F11 installed what did not resolve the issue.

The wake up from sleep did never worked reliably for me so I checked out what is reported for the model on e.g. reddit, same story, no one had any success over all these years to fix this issue and no firmware update that was released fixed it.

If your screen does not wake up, to fix this, it is required to unplug the screen from power. I was not able to reboot the screen using the soft power button at the back. Because using the hard power button at the left of the power socket is faster than trying to power it on, I usually used this method:

1. move the display up (if needed)
2. reach for the small power switch and switch the screen on, wait for a few seconds and then switch it back on
3. push the screen back down (if needed)

I pulled the plug and returned the screen and got my money back. This issue affects any M32U and since the M28U uses the same hardware, it can also be found on the M28U.

Avoid this screen if you like to let your PC or Mac enter sleep mode and would like to have the attached monitor to wake up after waking up your computer.

You may buy these models if you turn off your computer each time you move away from your desk. If this is not your favorite work habit, buy another screen from another manufacturer and save the time and hassle trying to troubleshoot this annoying screen wake up from sleep mode behaviour.

And after I returned back to my Acer B287K 3840x2160 pixel screen that never had any issue with waking up from sleep.
