Gimpshop won't Run on my Mac 2.4ghz C2D...

I was looking for a legal photoshop alternative that looked similar to PS and I saw Gimpshop suggested on MR. I dle'd the regular Gimp and it's more difficult to use than Photoshop...so I decided to try Gimpshop. Everytime I launch Gimpshop the X11 thing will open, but the program never does. It shuts down and says it's experienced a problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have a black macbook C2D 2.4ghz 4gb ram.

I've got the exact same issue here, on a 2.8 GHz C2D iMac. I'm equally stumped.
