Alright so I'm getting the new iPhone 4 from AT&T tomorrow and I would like to give my old iPhone 3G to my dad. However, there's one problem; he doesn't use the internet. So I'm wondering if there a way to make it so AT&T doesn't detect his 3G? Like, blocking the APN, unlocking the 3G, ect. Or is it impossible to hide it from AT&T?

Any advice would help, thanks! :)

Edit : More one thing, we're both on a family plan and he's currently using a flip phone

No. However, at $15, it's not that big of an expense, and he may find use for the internet.

Ahh I see...what about this?

"Beginning September 6, 2009, customers who activate or upgrade to a Smartphone will need to sign up for an appropriate data plan. Existing Smartphone customers active prior to September 6, 2009 will be grandfathered and exempt from the new policy."

Would my dad's flip phone be exempted from this policy since he's not "upgrading" to a new phone; he's just getting an old one lol.

the only way would be to put the 3G on a prepaid plan. If it's a regular plan they will know he is on an iPhone...
