Once in a while, Gizmodo actually has something technical worth reading.

This article by a scientist at DisplayMate is very interesting.

He charts out why the automatic brightness on those phones works opposite from the way it should, and wastes battery. (I think most of us have figured that part out on our own - grin.)

that was an interesting read.
I wish he would of test Blackberry Auto brightness feature as well. I am willing to bet it would of gotten much better results. I know on my BB I let Auto brightness cover most of the things and it works really well. Only time that it screws up is if it in a shadow or my thumb is over the sensor. Then it dims way to low but other wise I never have felt the need to mess with it depending on what the light around me.

This compared to my iPod which I have to adjust all the time.
