I'm not worried, as I think a desktop version of the OS will be about for decades to come. Although there may some teething problems brought about from trying to cram as mush of iOS as possible into it.

Yeah, it would be crazy if Apple discontinued OS X. They have to have a desktop OS for all of their pro apps and Xcode. They are not in the position to discontinue OS X altogether, and even if they were, that would be a bad decision.

Apple will continue to merge iOS and OS X, and in my opinion, "dumb down" OS X... but it will continue to exist for a few years at least.
