Gizmodo has new images which show the iPhone with video chat, product red, and a slightly re-designed shell. Looks good.

Right on. I actually buy into this. I think iChat is coming to Windows. It makes sense to me to do it this way. Perhaps that little twist no one was expecting but knew existed. Why not. They got iTunes. They got QuickTime. They got Safari. May as well get a good chat app. Virtually all of them on the PC are horrible. I use a PC at work, and I'd love iChat AV on it.

FAAAAAAKE. It couldn't be more obvious if it was put in an elevator... :D

Head over to engadget and they disprove the mock-up.

It's a few days before a big Apple event, and you know what that means: a ridiculous amount of really bad fake Apple product shots. Actually, you have to hand it to this first guy, pictured above. It's mildly convincing and sites are starting to pick it up -- the story goes some dude grabbed these pics from a Photoshop template his friend was working on and then posted it to Flickr, a scenario reminiscent of those iPod nano phatty shots that turned out to be real. Except there are a few issues with this one:
Our source who played with the 3G iPhone told us explicitly there is no front-facing videoconferencing camera.
Even still, when we were ferreting around the new 3G iPhone firmware today, we were keeping an eye out for altered or additional camera drivers, something to indicate a front-facing camera. Nothing.
The text explanation for Exchange and iChat are so bad as to make the whole thing unbelievable. (Apple's doing video chat for Windows? Huh?) But that's not all!
Say, wouldn't that exchange logo be in the Apple banner that's up at the Moscone right now? All the other iPhone icons are.
No Apple design would be laid out the way this guy's got his page laid out here.
Bottom line: looks pretty, but so very fake.
Click on to see the other one going around right now, a supposed opened box from a confidential 3G iPhone shipment. Uh huh.

Sorry. :(

Justin

p.s. And just to let everyone that is reading this know, there will be A TON more of these as WWDC approaches closer and closer. ;)

Looks good to me. I think it's real.

How do you know its fake?

Thats what people said about the fat iPod Nano photos, didnt they? ;)

Maybe the (Red) one doesnt have a lock button because when you want to lock the phone you cant and are forced to think about all the people with AIDS and how much they are struggling, and here you are worrying about locking your phone.

Based on what? A most-definitely photoshopped set of pictures?

How do you know its fake?

Touche sir, touche :)

and I'm going to soak up all the info I can get. :D

You do that!

that was my first thought too... :D

maybeeeeee

I think they're real, don't worry about the lack of a sleep/wake button on the red pic it's obvious these are just some early photoshop drafts not the finished product.

My vote is 70% probability that they're fake.

The first reasons being that ridiculous image of the guy on the screen, which is so much worse than any other headshot that they've ever used before, and for which there would be no great reason for it to be there as a placeholder if this were an unfinished preproduction image.

Secondly, when real pix of unreleased Apple products are leaked Apple's lawyers get them taken down within a couple of hours no matter what time of day or night they first surfaced, and these pix have been up all over all the tech websites for many many hours now.

And there are plenty more reasons, but those two reasons alone are more than strong enough to cast serious doubt on the veracity of these images.
