Thoughts? The iPhone X is slightly thicker than the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, so easier to hold so that’s a plus.
Do you think this “strong” glass will be strong enough to not require a case?

Probably not, but the 8/X will be the first phones I will decide to forgo a case on. I think I'm more concerned about scratches from daily use than dropping it nowadays.

And glass is harder and much less prone to scratching than aluminum.

I mean it's glass, so if you drop your phone at all (casually on a hard surface desk, etc) then I would recommend a case. If actually dropping the phone...I'd probably still recommend a case. I'd guess it would sustain the more casual drops onto hard surfaces more easily though.

I won't be getting a case, but I rarely do anyway. I only put my phone down on softer surfaces, or else it stays in my pocket.

I'd vote for a transparent clear skin. It keeps form factor looking good while offering protection (some impact-level) for the phone.

I never have used cases and this is not going to change anything differently because of the glass back for me to use a case. I'm just very cautious when using my devices, but I do understand the downside with the glass back. But it's like anything, accidents happen and it's dependent on if somebody chooses to use a case or not for any iPhone.

I hear the 8 plus is thicker than the 7 plus yet the Apple store lists the same leather and silicone Apple cases as fitting both.

It's only marginally thicker, and I think it's literally the difference from the material glass vs. aluminum. If they say they're compatible though then they will fit the same, just slightly more snug. A good thing imo.

I've had every iPhone and have never used a case. Why start now?

Out of curiosity, what's your repair history? I use very thin cases, and I've never broken a screen, but there's probably one or two drops a year where I wonder whether the case saved the phone.

i guess it depends on how slippery it feels. i feel my iP6 is stupid slick without a case. i do have a mophie battery case now becuase this thing doesn't last 2hrs but i'm hoping to go caseless for the first time and get AC+ or carrier insurance. whichever is cheaper.

Glass is usually pretty grippy. Compared to metal anyway. Aluminum is the most slippery I believe.

At $1,000.00 and $199. for Applecare+ I'd wrap it in foam rubber, wrapped in bubble wrap. Seriously though, I wouldn't trust a thin case to protect it. I don't care how strong they say the glass is and putting it in something like an Otterbox or Lifeproof is a shame that you can't see your new beauty.

If the glass is more resistant to scratches, it will mean it is more brittle and will break. If it is softer, less brittle and harder to break. As small as the bezel is on the side, you better hope it does not land there.

I've only had one break and it was a very small crack in the lower left of the phone. It wasn't even over the actual screen. My mother in law was watching a video of my daughter and dropped my phone.
