I've always enjoyed reading and writing up emails on PPC Macs. It feels like one of those few modern tasks remaining that can still be done without compromise on old computers.

Until now.
My fast and easy-to-setup Gmail system until now was to use the old plain-HTML version of Gmail, which can easily be accessed through Safari (in 10.4.11).

Now, if you use Safari to open that page, Gmail can't run the necessary javascript (or something) to send you a 2-step verification, so instead it just says you have an outdated browser.

This is so annoying. Sure, it still is possible to do it using TenFourFox, but anyone who has used TFF on a G3 knows that it's not exactly "fast". I also tried using Apple's default Mail, but it always seemed to crash for me.

Does anyone have a fast, easy Email solution for slow G3s running 10.4?

I have a TenFourFoxBox loaded with a Nokia phone user agent - very low resources, however I don't have 2 step in place.
What is the site for the agent (or could you attach the box you made?)
I can’t stand 2-step but Gmail mandated it recently for security reasons…

Just got back to my PPCs after the Xmas break.

I managed to solve my problem.
There were two settings I needed to change for Gmail on a modern device – turning off 2-step verification, and enabling unsecured browser access for Gmail. These settings seem to have changed themselves…
Once I restored those settings, Gmail was back and running exactly as desired through Safari.

On the topic of TFF:
Whilst TenFourFox Boxes have clearly been faster than using TFF alone, I’ve had problems with them before – they don’t seem to remember logins, making boxed email, YouTube etc rather inconvenient. I did tick the ‘remember data’ setting when making the Box, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I refused to give google my phone number or anything for recovery purposes. I use Mail apps (macOS/iOS/iPadOS) for gmail. I have not signed into my account for a while (months?) via web browser. Now, for some unknown reason, trying to sign in to my gmail/google account via web browser using my gmail and password is not enough, it says it can't verify it's me??? They must have implemented 2 step verification without telling me! Unless it is because I have a new ISP?

In any case, years ago I was going to get rid of google, but, I had invested too much into YT which was tied to my gmail email. Ugh. I hate google! And I was very disappointed with Apple when they decided to put their videos on YT and not pick another service with better privacy policies. Gawd I wish someone would make something that will overtake YT and have better privacy policies.

I guess I'm going to have to change anything that uses my gmail to my iCloud email. This could take some time.

What sucks is I still have YT, and now I have even more invested into it, and even if I could get rid of that, I'm sure I'd have to sign in to my google account to close it.
