Gmail contacts - EVERYONE seems to be in there

Sorry for posting this on an Apple forum, but this is the only forum I'm a member of and hope someone may be able to help.

When composing an email in Apple Mail, it'll call-up suggestions of recipients from people in my Address Book. When composing in Gmail, it'll suggest people from my Gmail contacts and every person I have EVER sent/received an email.

How can I force it to not add every Tom Dick and Harry to my personal contacts?

You can't, but you can remove the old e-mail addresses in Window > Previous Recipients .
