Gmail Ie Mail --> Email App

okay so here is my question or situation first

i use gmail as my primary e-mail source.

i have three e-mail address (family, school, friends/ebay) and they all merge into one gmail address
when i write e-mails i can choose which address i want to send from

now if i were to make the jump from the internet based program to say the "best" mac based e-mail app (entourage, thunderbird?, mac mail?, eturo?/eutora?) which ever is best, will i be able to do the same thing, choose which e-mail address i would like to send from.

kindly let me know if anyone knows what i can do

but ive heard mixed reviews about how mac mail isn't that good

in your opinion what are the ranks of the many mail programs available out there?

just trying to see what others see as well and i thank you for your feedback
 
got a question now

when i set up the IMAP account in mac mail
how do i decide which e-mail address i want to send with when only setting it up with one account which 3 other e-mail address are forwarded to?
 
SO essentially you want 1 incoming account and 3 outgoing accounts.

Set up the IMAP account with 1 incoming and 1 outgoing, then after you are done go to Mail->Preferences->Accounts->Outgoing Mail Server->Edit Server List->'+'

btw WTF is up with shaw, i cannot for the life of me get that to work!!!

no idea, I only use mac mail.

what is shaw?
 
yeah
i have added that
and the username = before the @ sign of my email address and my password

but now not sure what kind of connection to put to it, either to connect secure and what port... argggg!!!

For incoming try either unsecured and port 110, or secured and port 995
For outgoing try unsecured port 587
