Gmail IMAP and mail

Hi,
I,m looking how to setup Gmail with mail but without getting the readed (old) messages. For example if I setup the account today, I just want the unread emails. Then all emails after today. I got about 11,000 emails on the gmail account and I don't want the old emails on the mail (macbook).

IMAP is designed to mirror what is on the server. Thus, if it's on the server it'll be in mail.app.

If you only want all future messages, you'll have to use POP.
