Gmail IMAP drains battery

Has anyone else noticed that after switching from POP to IMAP access for Gmail, the battery life has declined substantially? Is there any solution to this other than setting the frequency it checks emails to longer time intervals?

Before looking for a solution, how about any sort of plausible theory on how this could even be possible?

Because I cannot see that it is.

Mine works the same also and I just talked to 2 others who switched to IMAP and they dont see a difference either.

I just switched to the imap service a few days ago too. I haven't noticed any difference in battery life.

I haven't noticed any difference and I use 3 different GMail IMAP accounts on my iPhone. I still get ALMOST two days.
