I have several Gmail imap accounts. For the past several months they have ceased to sync in the background and sometimes cannot connect to smtp either.

When I open up mail, it will not connect. If I quit mail, then restart it, it will start syncing again after 3-4 attempts at refresh.

Solution for now is the gmail app which connects fine. All other apps connect to gmail fine using the same credentials. 


What does not work:
  • Delete/Sign-in gmail accounts
  • Disable 2-step sign in
This happens daily on my iPhone and iPad

Currently, the only solution I've tried that works with all email accounts (GMail IMAP and iCloud) is Outlook. CloudMagic does not play well with Apple's App-Specific Passwords
