Hello, i have been using Gmail under POP but now i just switched to IMAP. Under mail.app can i get rid of this "[Gmail]" folder below my inbox, sent and trash. i don't need that there, since my inbox, sent and trash is enough on top, please let me know, thanks!

No, that is showing you what is on the Gmail server. Delete that and you'll lose all your gmail messages.

i see, thanks for that. does it ever get annoying that if you receive an email it comes in your inbox and also in the all mail under [Gmail] and you have to view both to not look like you have a new message?

Yes, this annoys me and it was just this morning that I was trying to figure out away of stopping this from happening....

You don't have to look at both. Once you view in the inbox, next time it checks the server it'll mark the message as read in the 'All Mail' folder.
