Hi,

I linked my hotmail account to my gmail account.
Now all mails are coming to my gmail account.
A big advantage is that I can also send mails 'from' my hotmail account in the gmail account, at least online... (gmail.com)

I want to be able to send mails in Mail that have hotmail in the 'from:' field.
I found this on the gmail.com help site:

Apple Mail (for OS 10.4)

Set up the custom address in Gmail on the web. Learn how.
In the Mail menu, click Preferences.
Select your Gmail address.
On the Account Information tab, type your addresses in the Email Address field separated by commas (ex: 'username@gmail.com, username@yourdomain.com')
Close and save your settings, and you're done.

But when I do this, I get the following message (translated from Dutch):

ERROR

This message can't be delivered and stays in the map for outgoing mail untill it can be delivered.

The server doesn't accept the 'sender address' mymail@hotmail.com.

Is there any way I can get this to work in Mail?

Solved:

I changed the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com:mymail@gmail.com

Then it worked fine.

I'm having the exact same problem, but I'm not sure as to how you fixed it. Did you change the SMTP server on the hotmail alias on the Gmail website? Or did you change this on Apple Mail?

In Account settings, under the SMTP address, you can click the button for SMTP server settings.
The 'identity control' should be on 'password'.
Then you can fill in youremailadres@gmail.com as your user name and then your password.

The username that you entered will now add ':youremailadres@gmail.com' to the smtp server address, which will identify you to gmail. And your two addresses written in the 'e-mail address field' in Accounts will be able to send/receive as you like.

Hopefully this works for you?
