Gmail iPad and web not in sync.

When i login to gmail.com, the latest email is months old, but my ipad is constantly getting the latest emails in the default mail app from the same gmail account. How do i fix this?

Did you change your passcode and have not updated it in the app?

Is the account POP and set to delete mail once checked?
